ORDER TO THE FORCES OF WEST FRONT No. 049

19 October 1941

Responsibility of Red Army soldiers, commanders, and commissars for abandoned weapons was established by the Order of the Front Military Council No. 0015 of 14 July.

In elaboration to order No. 0015, establish the strictest responsibility all the way up to execution by firing squad for abandonment of weapons in defensive fortifications upon the withdrawal of forces from fortified lines.

During the organization of a defense, commanders of armies, divisions, and units must always have a developed plan of evacuation of the weapons from DOT and DZOT [wood and wood-earth field fortifications- J.Gebhardt] in the event of forced withdrawal to rearward lines.

The necessary transport means for transport of armaments must be designated ahead of time.

Pass this order down to commanders of companies, batteries, and platoons. After publication of the order to the ranks, destroy the order and report concerning the number of destroyed copies.
